Hello There! My name is Adiari and this month’s club spotlight goes to Oxfam. Do you want to help those suffering from the injustices of society? Do you have the desire to fight against poverty and bring an end to its disastrous results? Then AHS Oxfam America is just the club for you. AHS Oxfam America focuses on those undergoing hardship due to destitution; poverty, injustice, and hunger are the international objectives. Current Co-President Jamie Han says she learned about the club through a friend and has been part of it since getting to know its purpose and the kind of work the organization tries to do for the community. Students should join Oxfam because it’s a way to help the community and a great opportunity to get service hours. Service hours helping the greater good? It can’t get any better than that.
Earlier last year, Oxfam here at Alpharetta High School held a fundraiser for the Zika virus. They also helped a community organization called Meals by Grace, which meets every Sunday to pack food for families suffering from hunger. Why would it be the right fit for you? Jamie says, “It makes me feel as if I am a part of the process.” Become a member of Oxfam and help those less fortunate.
Meetings are held the first Wednesdays of every month during both A and B lunch in the media center, and follow them on Instagram @ahsoxfam. Don’t forget to stop by and join the fight against poverty!
